- Jefferson Book Awards
Each year, the UVA Club of Charlotte recognizes local outstanding high school juniors who best represent the Jeffersonian ideals of scholarship, leadership and citizenship with the Jefferson Book Award.
When Mr. Jefferson founded the University of Virginia in 1819, he wished to establish an University with a truly national stature. In his own words, he hoped it would be a “temptation to the youth of other states to come and drink of the cup of knowledge and fraternize with us.”
The Jefferson Book Award was established by the University to recognize outstanding high school students during their junior year. The recipients are juniors who their school’s faculty consider to be exceptionally talented scholars, leaders, and citizens.
