UVA Entertainment Club of Los Angeles: November Speaker Series: A Conversation with Emily Swallow (CLAS ’01)

On Tuesday, November 17th, alumni, parents, and friends joined the UVA Entertainment Club of Los Angeles for the final speaker series event of 2020, featuring Emily Swallow (CLAS ’01).

Emily Swallow, who grew up in Jacksonville, FL, graduated from UVA’s College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences with a Middle Eastern Studies Degree with Distinction in 2001. She pursued her major expecting to go into the Foreign Service, but was heavily involved with the Drama Department during her time at UVA and, at the encouragement of her professors, auditioned for and was accepted into NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, where she earned an MFA in acting (because why not amass even more debt before embarking on a career as an actor?).

Emily can currently be seen as The Armorer in the Disney+ series The Mandalorian, Natalie Pierce on SEAL Team and Amara in Supernatural. She has appeared on TV screens in ElementaryThe MentalistMonday MorningsHow to Get Away With MurderMan with a PlanThe Good Wife, and Flight of the Conchords, among others. On stage, she most recently played opposite Tom Hanks in the Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles production of Henry IV, Parts 1&2. Other theatre includes Disgraced at the Mark Taper Forum, High Fidelity on Broadway, Measure for Pleasure at the Public Theatre and Nice Fish with Mark Rylance at the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis. She is married to actor Chad Kimball, who is in Broadway’s Come From Away…or at least he is when Broadway is actually up and running…
