Director Q&A – “Seats at the Table”

UVA alumni, parents, and friends in Charlottesville, Richmond, and the Shenandoah Valley were joined by award-winning filmmaker Chris Farina (CLAS ’82) on Friday, July 31st, for a pre-screening discussion of “Seats at the Table”, a feature-length documentary film that highlights UVA’s unique program – Books Behind Bars. Chris discussed the film-making process and answered audience questions.

The Books Behind Bars program allows University of Virginia students to meet with incarcerated youth at a maximum-security juvenile correctional center to explore questions of meaning, value, and social justice through life-changing conversations about literature. View the film’s trailer here.

The Books Behind Bars class is taught by Andrew Kaufman, Lecturer in Slavic Languages and Literatures, College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences. “Seats at the Table” is a documentary film that follows Professor Kaufman’s class and captures the experiences of the UVA students and residents through the study of Russian literature.
