2011 Cavaliers Care

A big thank you to everyone who came out to this year's Cavaliers Care project at the Central PA Foodbank with the Virginia Tech Club. The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank distributes more than 16 million pounds food and grocery products every year to more than 600 soup kitchens, shelters, and food pantries in 27 central Pennsylvania counties. These agencies directly feed thousands of hungry families throughout central Pennsylvania. View the slideshow.

2010 Highlights

As we move into a new year, here is a brief look back on some highlights from this past year.

1) Central PA Food Bank 04/19/2010: This Cavaliers Care Project was a joint venture between the UVa and Virginia Tech clubs of Central PA. A large group of us donned hairnets and plastic gloves and bagged white rice into family-size portions to be included in boxes of food for needy families across 27 counties. Of course, there was a fair amount of friendly ribbing going on with our rivals!

2) Race Against Racism 5k Run/Walk 04/26/2010: This Cavaliers Care Project through the YWCA of Greater Harrisburg was in support of racial equality and opportunity and to raise awareness of issues related to race in our community. Dawn ran and Joe walked in support of this important cause.

3) South Central PA Sickle-Cell Council Bowl-A-Thon 04/26/2010: This Cavaliers Care Project helped to raise money for research through the local Sickle-Cell Council chapter. We enjoyed bowling for 3 hours for a great cause, even if our scores weren’t so great.

4) 'Hoos Helping for the Holidays 12/15/2010: Donations were collected and grocery store gift cards in the amount of $120 were sent to a local family in need to help brighten their holidays.

Student Send-off Party Recap

On August 8, new, current and future 'Hoos and their friends and families enjoyed a great afternoon of food, fun and fellowship with the UVaClub of Central PA. There was even a friendly game of "geezer golf" played in the front yard! Thanks to all who came to the Student Send-off and made it a success. And special thanks to Stephen Brindle for hosting.

Central Pennsylvania Arts Fest Recap

During the weekend of July 9-12, several 'Hoos made a trip to State College to enjoy the Central Pennsylvania Arts Fest. A grand time with the arts was had by all. We look forward to next year’s Arts Fest.

UVaClub of Central Pennsylvania Open House BBQ

The UVaClub of Central Pennsylvania hosted an Open House BBQ on Saturday, May 16, at Fort Hunter in Harrisburg to help spread the word about our growing club. All had a fantastic time - full of food, fun and fellowship. Thanks to all who came.

Cavaliers Care 2009

Thanks to all for the excellent Cavaliers Care Worldwide month! The UVaClub of Central PA wishes to thank all who came to support our two Cavaliers Care events in April. Both the South Central PA Sickle Cell Council’s annual Bowling Party, which was held on April 18, and the Race Against Racism on April 25 were filled with food, fun and fellowship.

As we start the new year, we would love to learn about the non-profit service organizations and charities you serve and we'd love to hear your ideas for how our club can participate.
