Schools Committee

College Fairs

The UVaClub of Chicago works in conjunction with the University in overseeing the college fairs at local high schools.  Volunteer alumni representatives staff U.Va.'s table at the fairs and help answer questions from prospective students and encourage them to apply to the University.

Activities & Events for Admitted Students

Each spring, the UVaClub of Chicago Schools Committee coordinates the congratulatory phone calls to local high school students who have been accepted to the University.  The Schools Committee also organizes our annual Student Send-Off Party to for newly-accepted first years in the weeks before they head to Charlottesville.  The reception allows incoming first years and their parents to network with each other and current University students so that they build an immediate peer network before they head off to school.

Congratulatory Calls

In 2011, an unprecedented 83 students from the Chicagoland area were accepted to U.Va.! UVaClub of Chicago volunteers helped make congratulatory phone calls to these potential students and encouraged them to attend U.Va.  In the fall, 21 students will leave the Windy City to head down to Charlottesville and join their fellow members of the Class of 2015.

Class of 2015 Send-Off Party

In August 2011, the UVaClub of Chicago invited incoming first years and Chicago area alumni to the Send-off Party for the Class of 2015.  Special thanks to Robert and Cheryl Byron who hosted the Class of 2015 & the UVaClub of Chicago at Skokie Country Club in Glencoe, IL.
