Get InvolvedThe Virginia Club of New York is comprised of alumni from all walks of life. In order to best reach out to our entire alumni population, the Club has created Committees that serve as valuable resources in helping to plan events, research programming ideas, and shape the club's agenda. The Virginia Club strongly encourages its members - whether clubhouse or chapter - to join a Committee and get involved! Meets on the second Monday of every month at 7:00 p.m. Committee includes: EventsMeets on the last Monday of every month at 7:00 p.m. Committees include: - Social: Plans social events ranging from Mr. Jefferson's Holiday party and a Schools-of-the-South BBQ & Bluegrass to art gallery outings and all-ACC happy hours. Chair: Nellie Black - Speakers/Networking: Works with both University and alumni communities in bringing distinguished speakers to the Yale Club. In the past, this Committee has hosted book signings, professor lectures, and industry-specific alumni panels. Co-Chairs: Lauren Pickett & Alex Leitch - Community Service: Sponsors engaging service projects in and around Manhattan and encourages alumni participation in other local service opportunities. One project, the University Soup Kitchen, usually meets on the second Saturday of every month. The Club holds a Cavaliers Care Day every April for Jefferson's birthday as well as a Service Day each fall. This Committee often promotes the work of U.Va. alumni working for non-profit organizations. Chair: Mark Weber - Athletics: Coordinates trips to see U.Va. teams compete locally and organizes gamewatch events in New York City so that U.Va. fans can come together to cheer on the Hoos. This Committee also hosts intramural sports like softball in Central Park every summer. Chair: Joshua Holmes Book ClubGathers at alumni's homes every six weeks to discuss a book over refreshments. Special guests have included Taylor Antrim (MFA '04), author of The Headmaster's Ritual and Ed Hayes (CLAS '69), whom Tom Wolfe based his character Tommy Killian on in The Bonfire of the Vanities.
