Get Involved

The Virginia Club of New York is comprised of alumni from all walks of life.  In order to best reach out to our entire alumni population, the Club has created Committees that serve as valuable resources in helping to plan events, research programming ideas, and shape the club's agenda.  The Virginia Club strongly encourages its members - whether clubhouse or chapter - to join a Committee and get involved!

We hold various meetings each month at the Yale Club.  All are welcome to attend.  Please email or call us at (212) 716-2142 with any questions.

-      Branding & Marketing
               Chair: Nellie Black

-      Membership: Identifies potential new members and develops methods to promote chapter and clubhouse membership among area alumni.
               Chair: Cristina Bell

               Co-Chairs: Alicia JayoDavid Hale

Engagement

Meets on the third Monday of every month at 6:30 p.m.  Committees include:

-      Admissions: Cavalier Admissions Volunteers (CAVs) help U.Va.'s Office of Undergraduate Admissions with their efforts to recruit New York students.  They do this through attending college fair nights at local high schools, by serving on panels at admissions information sessions, and in making congratulatory phone calls to accepted students.
Co-Chairs: Laura Borcheller & Kelly Jones

-      Affinity Outreach: Promotes and provides a forum for collaborative discussions regarding diversity related events.  This Committee serves as a central liaison in connecting the Virginia Club to U.Va. affinity groups for the purposes of supporting philanthropic, professional development, and social endeavors in the greater NYC community.  Some of our affinity groups include Ridley New York and the Serpentine Society.
               Chair: Brandi Colander

-      Development
               Chair: Polly Pereos

-      Office of Regional Engagement
               Chair: Jodi Neuhauser

Events

Meets on the last Monday of every month at 7:00 p.m.  Committees include:

-      Social: Plans social events ranging from Mr. Jefferson's Holiday party and a Schools-of-the-South BBQ & Bluegrass to art gallery outings and all-ACC happy hours.
               Chair: Nellie Black

-      Speakers/Networking: Works with both University and alumni communities in bringing distinguished speakers to the Yale Club.  In the past, this Committee has hosted book signings, professor lectures, and industry-specific alumni panels.
Co-Chairs: Lauren Pickett & Alex Leitch

-      Community Service: Sponsors engaging service projects in and around Manhattan and encourages alumni participation in other local service opportunities.  One project, the University Soup Kitchen, usually meets on the second Saturday of every month.  The Club holds a Cavaliers Care Day every April for Jefferson's birthday as well as a Service Day each fall.  This Committee often promotes the work of U.Va. alumni working for non-profit organizations.
               Chair: Mark Weber

-      Athletics: Coordinates trips to see U.Va. teams compete locally and organizes gamewatch events in New York City so that U.Va. fans can come together to cheer on the Hoos.  This Committee also hosts intramural sports like softball in Central Park every summer.
               Chair: Joshua Holmes

Book Club
