Cocktail Party and Discussion with Stephen Railton

Wednesday, March 9, 2011

Thanks to everyone who joined the UVaClub of Savannah for a Cocktail Party and Discussion with Stephen Railton, Professor of English at the University of Virginia. Professor Railton explored Mark Twain and what he and his work have meant to America by means of Mark Twain In His Times, Stephen Railton's internet archive, drawn largely from U.Va. Library's Barrett Collection. There was an article featured in the student voice of SCAD website about the event. Read the article.

2009 Student Send-off

Thursday, August 13, 2009

Despite the fact that we had a monsoon dropping an inordinate amount of rain all at once, a couple dozen brave Wahoos attended the Student Send-off Party on August 13. We all had a chance to get to know Alec Darbyshire and welcome him into the U.Va. family. He is a very engaging young man with intelligence, wit, maturity and an outgoing personality that will surely be an asset to the University. Rising second-year student Caroline Lewis shared news about the changes at the University since many of us attended and helped us to reminisce.

Carl and Kathy Pedigo were gracious hosts and the UVaClub of Savannah was grateful that they opened their home for the Send-off. Carl did a lovely job of giving the official Send-off remarks to the students. He captured the aspects of U.Va. that made it so special for all of us. Club vice-president Jason Pedigo greeted guests at the door and club secretary Ana Marisa Casanova took great pictures (view slideshow). A big thanks to club president Greg Waldhour and Schools Committee chairman Paul Weatherhead for planning the event. We hope to see all of you at next year's Send-off.
