2010 Cavaliers Care: Thames 21 Clean Up
Sunday, 18 April, 2010
Kirsten Jellard (CLAS '97) lead the UVaClub of London in a Cavaliers Care project organized through the Thames 21 organization and cleaned up 6 tons of rubbish along the banks of the Thames. Alumni enjoyed being out on the river and spent about 2 and a half hours clearing debris from abandoned boats and other trash from the foreshore. There's a nice sense of community along that stretch of the Thames, a number of the people who live on boats there came out to help as well. A good time was had by all! On Saturday 29 September, 2008, four alumni volunteers represented the University of Virginia at London College Day. College Day is a well established and increasingly popular undergraduate US educational fair where those interested in studying in the US have a unique opportunity to meet representatives of US colleges and universities face-to-face. College Day represents the oldest and largest event of its kind in Europe and has grown from a gathering of 200 students and 30 universities in 1977 to approximately 5,000 visitors and around 100 schools in recent years. It is our plan to have representatives from the UVaClub of London participate in the 2009 London College Day.
