About Luggage

We understand how difficult it is to pack your belongings for a whole year away from home! However, you should bring only as many pieces of luggage as you can keep track of by yourself. There will be volunteers assisting you with loading and unloading your luggage, but if you bring 4 pieces of luggage, for example, we want you to know where those 4 pieces of luggage are at all times. If it is not too expensive to do so, please consider having personal items shipped to you if you will not need them right away.

You will receive information from U.Va. about ordering linens and bedding, and in the week after you arrive on Grounds, International Host Program volunteers will help you shop for bedding and basic appliances on a day trip to an all-American super-store. (Fun!) But when you arrive, your dormitory bed will be a simply mattress and frame. Please pack a blanket and/or small pillow, so that you have a comfortable way to sleep until your permanent bedding comes through.
