About UVaExpress
The UVaExpress is free, coordinated transportation from Dulles International Airport in Washington, DC and Charlottesville Airport to the University of Virginia on Tuesday, August 19, and Wednesday, August 20. The program is coordinated by the University of Virginia’s Office of Engagement and has been made available to international first year and transfer students by a generous contribution from one of our graduates in Singapore.
All new students are asked to attend First Year Orientation, a two-day introduction to academics, student life, and the resources available to you at the University. Students who live outside of the U.S. are encouraged to attend Session L, and Orientation check-in for this session takes place on Wednesday, August 20. Many of you will be flying to the United States by yourselves, and this program provides transportation to Charlottesville.
There is no programming on Wednesday, August 20, just move-in to your dorm and preparation of your personal identification card, or Student ID. We want you to plan to arrive in time to check-in to Orientation. Of course, your plans depend on when you can get convenient, inexpensive flight times and airfares from your home country. We strongly encourage you to fly in to the two following airports: Washington Dulles International Airport (booking code IAD) and Charlottesville Airport (booking code CHO). Flights to Charlottesville are considerably more expensive, and the schedule is limited, because it is a very small airport; however, this airport is a short 30 minute drive from the school. Most international students’ best option is to fly to Dulles Airport, a large airport outside our nation's capital that is 2 hours from the school by bus. All students will be greeted at the airports by University of Virginia staff and alumni volunteers and brought to the Grounds of the University on free, coordinated bus transportation departing every 1 to 2 hours from the airport, and all students will be brought to a location near their dormitory entrance and assisted in bringing their luggage to their rooms.
