About Student Send-Offs

Each year the Office of Engagement works with UVaClubs around the country and internationally to coordinate Student Send-Off events for incoming first years, transfers, returning students, and parents. We invite you to attend a Send-Off event in your area this summer.

Student Send-Offs are social gatherings for students and parents that take on many forms ranging from backyard barbecues to formal receptions. These events are a great opportunity to meet and ask questions of current students, parents, alumni, and staff. Our goal is for you to meet other U.Va. students and parents and begin building a network within the University community.

There are various dates and locations for events around the country and abroad. You may choose to attend the event in your area, or if you are traveling or spending the summer in another location, enjoy one on the road. We look forward to seeing you this summer!

The Good Old Song

Words by Edward A. Craighill, 1895

That Good Old Song of Wahoowa,
We'll sing it o'er and o'er.
It cheers our heart and warms the blood
To hear them shout and roar.
We come from old Virginia,
Where all is bright and gay.
Let's all join hands and give a yell
For dear old U.Va.

What though the tide of years may roll
And drift us far apart,
For Alma Mater still there'll be
A place in ev'ry heart.
In college days we'll sing her praise,
And so, when far away,
In memory we still shall be
At the dear old U.Va.

(chant)
WAHOOWA, WAHOOWA
UNI-V, VIR-GIN-I-A
HOO-RAH-RAY, HOO-RAH-RAY
RAY! RAY! U-V-A!
