Saturday, May 3,
9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Location:

Maryland Oaks Crossing
3103 Bicycle Road
Tallahassee, Florida 32304

Project Description:

Due to a food shortage at the Second Harvest of the Big Bend (SHBB), we were contacted late yesterday and told there will be no food to sort this Saturday. We can still make a difference in our community in three significant ways. One of the SHBB partnering agencies is in desperate need of help with filing, as well as groundswork (raking & weedwacking). This will take place on the same day and during the same time slot we were scheduled to volunteer at the Second Harvest of the Big Bend. Another way the UVaClub of the Red Hills can help the more immediate problem of a food shortage is to participate in the annual Stamp Out Hunger Campaign.

Maryland Oaks Crossing is a rent-subsidized development of 20 new manufactured homes located in West Tallahassee. Maryland Oaks Crossing offers housing for about 50 persons who qualify for Section 8 vouchers from the Tallahassee Housing Authority. Generally they are single parents, handicapped people, or military veterans. If you can help with yard work, please bring your rakes, weedwackers, and work gloves. Not up for the great outdoors? No problem! Help is needed with filing in the office, too.

For more information about Second Harvest of the Big Bend go to www.fightinghunger.org or contact Ellen Crabtree at rcrabtree3333@comcast.net or (850) 668-7586.
